Dr. Krishna Ella

Dr. Krishna Ella, Executive Chairman- Bharat Biotech, is a leading scientist and entrepreneur in the field of vaccines and biotherapeutics. Founding Bharat Biotech International Ltd., in 1996 with his wife Suchitra, the company, with 433 patents filed and over 215 granted patents, espouses Dr. Ella’s vision of developing innovative remedies for developing world healthcare challenges.
Under Dr. Ella’s leadership, the company has successfully developed 17 lifesaving vaccines while delivering over 7 billion vaccines to the poorest and most underserved populations in over 123 developing countries. Most recently, the company successfully delivered COVAXIN®- India’s 1st indigenous vaccine against COVID-19 and iNCOVACC- the world’s first intranasal vaccine for COVID-19.
An alumnus of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, US, Dr. Ella is focussed on innovations in animal health and food through his other ventures- Biovet, Ella Foods, amongst others respectively.
Dr. Ella contributes to shaping India’s policies on science, research and innovation in various capacities through over 15 Government of India committees including as Member‒ Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) society.
Dr Ella is a recipient of numerous national & international awards and 5 honorary degrees, including from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, USA. Dr Ella is a 2022 recipient of the Padma Bhushan, the Republic of India’s third highest civilian award, in recognition for his incomparable contributions to the society and industry.
